Zanzibar red colobus monkeys, giant tortoises and tropical birds are just a few of the things you'll see on this full day tour. You'll walk through the only national park on the island, Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, on a nature trail then catch the boat over to Prison Island to delve into its fascinating history. There's even time for some swimming and snorkeling.
First on the agenda will be a guided walk through Jozani Chwaka National Park, filled with mangroves and moisture-hugging trees. But look up – you might just spot the famous red colobus monkeys, an endangered species found only in Zanzibar. There are other monkeys to be found, too, as well as bush babies, duikers, butterflies and birds.
Afterwards, you'll head to Stone Town to catch the boat over to Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island – it's approximately a 30-minute crossing. It's inhabited by giant tortoises, and you'll visit the foundation that takes care of them. You will also visit the Prison Island Museum, where you can learn more about its history, and then have time to swim and have lunch.
