A splendid city of art, Vigevano is an undiscovered jewel. The heart of the Lombard city, in the province of Pavia, is the Piazza Ducale, an early example of a Renaissance square based on the model of the Roman forum. Commissioned by Ludovico il Moro, Duke of Milan, as a point of entry to the imposing Visconti-Sforza Castle, the square was inaugurated in 1494 and was designed with the contribution of Bramante and with the presence of Leonardo da Vinci, who worked as a superintendent of city waters on behalf of Ludovico il Moro. Vigevano is a city of water, crossed by canals and the Ticino River, which offer natural fascinating views.
