The National Museum of the Palazzo di Venezia is housed in the ancient papal residence of Paul II Barbo (1464-1471), a great lover of collecting, who founded the museum and promoted the artistic dedication of the building.
Built in 1921, the museum offers a journey through the applied arts. Here you can visit the collections of paintings on wood and canvas from the 15th -18th centuries and 18th century pastels as well as miniatures and fans. In addition, you will find a rich series of Italian and German wooden sculptures, a valuable collection of sketches and reliefs in terracotta of the 1500s and 1600s, early medieval and renaissance marbles, seal matrices, enamels, sacred and non-sacred silversmith objects, glass, ivory, Italian school bronzes and a vast collection of ceramics and porcelain.
