Get to look upon one of the most photographed sites in Iceland. The DC3 plane wreck is a US Navy Aircraft that crashed on 2.00pm 21 November 1973 due to icing. The plane landed on an ice-covered river on Sólheimasandur. The ice in the river broke but the airplane did not sink and all the passengers on board survived the crash.
It used to take more than an hour to hike to the plane wreck but now this shuttle offers you a comfortable 15-minute drive directly down to the airplane. You will have plenty of time to explore the wreck and its surroundings. After you took some pictures to remember your visit the shuttle will drive you back to the parking lot.
