Visit Gorée Island which was an important place in the history of African slavery and explore Dakar and its monument.
Wait for the pick-up at the reception desk at 06.45am and head to Gorée island which was the most important Slave depot in West Africa between the 15th and the 18th century. Be prepared to hear horrific stories of how slaves were brought here against their will in horrible conditions. A visit to the door-of-no-return will give you an idea of millions of African Slaves being sorted out and led into the slave ships asking for mercy. Go to the house of slaves and the historical museum.
Then, have lunch at Ann Sabran restaurant and prepare for an afternoon tour of Dakar. Pass by Dakar Railway Station which is a wonderful example of colonial architecture and one of the most important architectural landmarks of the city. Discover the Presidential Palace that was built for the former French Governor and now serves as the official home of the current sitting president. Next, see the Cathedrale du Souvenir Africain de Dakar built in a country that is 95% Muslim. Admire one of the finest examples of religious architecture of the 19th century. Afterward, visit the African Renaissance Monument, a striking monument of 21st-century Africa that offers a panoramic view of the city of Dakar.
