What to expect

Katakolon may be small in size, but it's big on things to do. Dubbed as 'the gateway to Olympia', this small seaside town hosts a port where cruise ships regularly stopover to explore. On this easygoing morning trip, we'll drop you in the heart of Katakolon for some free time to see the sights, shop for souvenirs or grab some lunch at a traditional taverna.

Head in early and you'll have around three hours to spend at your own leisure. After having a look at the harbour and cruise port, a relaxed walk into the town's Main Street will take roughly 10 minutes. Lined with small shops, stalls and quaint, independent boutiques, it's the perfect place to grab a range of local products, souvenirs, jewellery, and local Greek delicacies.

You'll also find heaps of traditional tavernas and cafés. The area is famed for its fresh seafood, including octopus and calamari. You'll also find typical Greek dishes such as moussaka, souvalki and Greek salad.

Full Day Boat Tour to Zante with Smuggler's Cove

Pick-up any postcard of Zante and it's likely that Smuggler's Cove sits front and centre on it. Discover the soaring cliffs and shipwreck ruins of this famous bay during a full day boat cruise. Along the way, there'll be plenty of swimming and sunbathing, a stop at the Blue Caves, plus free time to explore the pretty port of Agios Nikolaos. Eleni, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Be prepared to be dazzled by the sea around the Blue Caves, which seems to glow electric blue because the white limestone underneath the waves reflects the sun through the azure water.' The best part of this cruise is that you'll get to catch all of Zante's top coastal bits in one relaxing boat trip. After sailing over from Kyllini Port we'll kick off with a swim stop at dazzling Xigia beach. Sailing by windmills and white cliffs against the turquoise sea, we'll then head for Smuggler's Cove for a photo stop. Back in the 80s, a ship carrying contraband cigarettes ran aground in this chalk-white cove. What's left is a fantastic photo-op - Zante's best-known beach is one of the most photographed spots in the whole of Greece. After pausing to admire the Blue Caves, there's another swim stop at a secluded beach before heading ashore for some free time in the teeny fishing port of Agios Nikolaos. It's a sleepy kind of place with a couple of tempting beaches and one or two tavernas. You'll have free time here to try some meze, or just simply swim and sunbathe before the return cruise.

Nafpaktos and Trizonia Tour with a Local Guide

Trizonia may be the only inhabited island in the Gulf of Corinth, but with virtually no cars and only a handful of locals, it's like a throwback to another era. On this half-day tour, you'll head out by boat to explore the island, as well as a foray into the old town of Nafpaktos, known for its Venetian heritage. Athanasios, one of our expert local guides, says 'The close-knit community of inhabitants on Trizonia prefer the quieter side of life. But, with that being said, they welcome visitors with open arms to see their little slice of paradise'.You'll start the morning in Nafpaktos - historically known as Lepanto. Its walled harbour and hilltop Venetian castle are the star attractions here. Kinga, another of our expert local guides, says 'The walls stand as a reminder of one of the most important naval battles in history that took place here, five centuries ago'. Nowadays, colourful boats take the moorings of the quaint harbour, with trendy tavernas and shops dotted along the time-worn cobbled alleys. Then, you'll head to board the boat and sail across to Trizonia. This laid-back oasis is about as close to a car-free utopia as you can get, and serves up an abundance of postcard-worthy beaches, olive groves and dreamy walking trails. You'll have time here at your disposal to sightsee, swim or simply relax under the warm Mediterranean sun. Drift through the sleepy streets, unwind on one of the sandy stretches, or even mingle with the islanders – they've got time, and they're not shy about sharing it.
