Welcome to the holiest city in Islam.
The city of Makkah or Mecca is located deep in the sandy heart of Saudi Arabia. The birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and the site of his first revelation, this city has been attracting countless worshipers since the dawn of Islam. In the month of Hajj (Pilgrimage), the number of visitors triples, as Muslims fulfill their religious obligations (if financially and physically able to do so) in reaching the holy city at least once in their life.
The city's most sacred relic is the "Kaaba", a small mystical black building, located at the center of the Great Mosque of Mecca, where the sacred practice known as tawaf can be carried out. Worshipers walk seven times, in a counterclockwise direction around the building, symbolizing the unity of all Muslims when worshiping Allah (the One God).
