Kaliningrad is one of the most interesting excalves in the world. Located between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea, it was historically part of Prussia and was later passed between countries during the European wars. Königsberg, as it was known under German rule, became part of the Soviet Union after World War II and the later Lithuanian independence turned this city into an exclave of Russia.
While the former Königsberg featured regal architecture and a European culture, today Kaliningrad is spotted with unmistakably Soviet monuments. Visit this city to enjoy a pleasant walk in the leafy green parks, explore the exceptional museums, see its trademark city gates and its main attraction the 14th century Königsberg Cathedral.
