It's all sweet and spicy on this full-day tour. You'll discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stone Town in the morning, then get a flavor for everything to do with spices on an hour-long afternoon tour of the spice plantations. Your guide will lead you around historic Stone Town while pointing out landmarks such as Darajani Market, the main bazaar in Zanzibar, as well as the former slave market and Forodhani Gardens where you'll be greeted by views over the House of Wonders – a former sultan's palace. There's also a pit stop at the Tanzanite Museum, where you'll explore the history of Tanzania's famous Tanzanite gemstone, a unique treasure found only in the country.
Meanwhile, you'll learn about popular inhabitants such as Princess Salme, Farrokh Bulsara, and Bi Kidude. Last but not least, you'll pass by the Old Fort before finishing up with some craft and souvenir shopping. The afternoon will then be dedicated to finding out why Zanzibar is known as the Spice Island. Once you arrive at the farms, you'll set off to see where pepper, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon are grown. Your guide will give you the lowdown on how spices are used in local dishes, medicine and ceremonies, too.
