Wurzburg’s poster child palace, the UNESCO-rated Wurzburg Residence, is on the cards today. You’ll drive from the port to the palace, ticking off sights like the cathedral, market place and Old Main Bridge en route. Once you arrive, you’ll go on a 90-minute guided tour. Starting with the interiors, you’ll stroll through its rooms, which feature impressive marble columns, gilded mirrors and flamboyant frescos. Speaking of which, the world’s biggest ceiling fresco crowns the stairway. It was painted by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and depicts America, Africa and Asia. After, you’ll step outside, where you’ll be shown the gardens. These landscaped lawns are just as impressive as inside and you can explore the sculptures, topiaries and rare plants with some free time.
