Witch trials occurred in Siegburg during the 17th century due to prevailing religious superstitions, fear of the unknown during the Thirty Years' War, social tensions, political climate allowing persecution, personal vendettas, and influence of witch-hunting manuals. This led to wrongful accusations and tragic consequences for those accused of witchcraft. Between 1636 and 1638, 37 individuals were accused of witchcraft or sorcery and met a horrific fate as they were burned at the stake.
