Book your tickets to the Ducal Palace of Mantua! Discover a splendid palace designed and decorated by the most important artists throughout the centuries. Visit the beautiful Bridal Chamber painted by Andrea Mantegna, explore the Old Court and admire the art collection Romano Freddi.
The buildings of the complex were built between the 14th and 17th centuries on a surface of almost 34.000 square meters and include about 500 rooms. Over the centuries, the most important architects and artists were engaged by the powerful Gonzaga family to work on this majestic residence, among them Bartolino da Novara, who projected and directed the construction of San Giorgio Castle.
Admire incredible and priceless treasures in the rooms of the castle, such as a cycle of frescoes inspired by the legend of King Arthur by Pisanello and Andrea Mantegna's Camera Picta or Chamber of the Newlyweds; both masterpieces are linked to the name of Ludovico Gonzaga, who decided to move to Castel San Giorgio from the Old Court.
The palace decorations include historical, allegorical and mythological themes, such as those featured in the Corte Nuova, which was built in the 16th century by architect Giulio Romano; admire the story of Troy on the walls of the Sala del Manto, the Jupiter Room in the summer apartment La Rustica and the stories of the Metamorphoses in the Galleria del Passerino.
