Situated along the Yenisey River, Krasnoyarsk is the third-largest city in Siberia after Novosibirsk and Omsk, with a population of over 1 million. It is is an important junction of the renowned Trans-Siberian Railway, and is one of the largest producers of aluminium in the country.
With the Eastern Sayan Mountains located just 10 km south of the city, Krasnoyarsk is known for its natural landscape. While hikers and rock climbers will definitely enjoy a day in the Stolby Nature Reserve featuring dramatic complexes of rocks.
Explore the cities museums - Krasnoyarskiy Krayevoy Krayevedcheskiy Muzey, a local history museum with exhibits covering art, natural history, archaeology and ethnography. Then, step inside the unique Steamer-museum Saint Nicholas whose passenger list included Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov, the future last emperor of Russia Nicholas II.
Finally, wander to the top of Karaulnaya Gora, the Paraskevy Pyatnitsy Chapel is an icon of Krasnoyarsk that was even featured on the old 10 ruble note. From its high vantage point visitors can experience panoramic views of the city from above.
