The Strait of Gibraltar, just offshore of Tarifa – Spain's southernmost point – is teeming with dolphins and whales, who can be seen in this part of the world all year round. This outing takes you onto the water in search of them.
You'll kick things off with a walking tour around Tarifa, a town that sits by the point where the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea meet. The conditions here have made the place a paradise for surfers and watersports fan, who you might see catching a few waves while you explore. Then, you'll head to the Marine Mammal Research Institute, where a marine biologist will show you around and get you prepped for the main event.
Next, you'll head out into the Strait of Gibraltar for a two-hour cruise in search of dolphins and whales. Keep your camera ready, because these gentle giants could show up at any moment. Bottlenose and common dolphins all call this place home, as do a pod of resident orca – you know, the kind of whale Free Willy was. After your cruise, you'll then have a couple of hours' free time in Tarifa before heading back to your accommodation.
