What to expect

Un bosco ultracentenario con oltre 60 esemplari di pini larici e aceri montani piantati nel Seicento dai Baroni Mollo, proprietari del vicino Casino, donato al FAI nel 2016.

La selva fu sfruttata nei secoli dai pastori per estrarre dai tronchi una resina infiammabile come la pece; era una risorsa preziosa che tra Sei e Settecento fu oggetto di numerosi provvedimenti del governo di Napoli, emessi per limitare le frequenti minacce di abbattimento. Con la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, i terreni furono espropriati e reintegrati poi nel patrimonio dell’Ex Azienda di Stato per le Foreste Demaniali che, insieme alla famiglia Mollo, promosse l’istituzione dell’attuale Riserva Naturale Guidata Biogenetica allo scopo di studiare, conservare geneticamente e tutelare questo patrimonio storico-naturale di enorme valore. L’intervento dell’uomo, oggi, ha il solo scopo di lasciare che la natura faccia il suo corso, e poter così osservare l’evoluzione naturale del bosco offrendo un ambiente spontaneo ad animali che vivono ormai in pochi altri luoghi del Paese.

Affidato in concessione al FAI dal Parco Nazionale della Sila, nel 2016.
