Natuurwonderen, prachtige stranden en sfeervolle dorpen - als het op sightseeing aankomt, heeft Kefalonia genoeg te bieden om je camera in de aanslag te houden. Op deze dagtocht met de bus zie je een aantal van de topattracties, zowel boven als onder de grond. Het meer van Melissani, de Drogarati grot, Fiskardo en Agia Efimia staan allemaal op het programma. En ook een fotostop bij de baai van Myrtos. Georgios, een van onze lokale gidsen, zegt: "Met ongeveer 250 km kustlijn heeft Kefalonia een aantal van de mooiste stranden van Griekenland. Maar als je je kunt losrukken van je ligbedje op het ongerepte zand, zul je merken dat er nog veel meer te zien en te doen is.”

Je avontuur begint bij het ondergrondse meer van Melissani, waar je een boottocht maakt naar de Melissani grot. Het zonlicht dat door de opening van deze grot naar binnen schijnt, geeft het water eronder een glinsterende fluorescerende tint – prachtig om te zien. Georgios zegt: "Er zijn veel mythen en legenden over de geschiedenis van het meer. Sommigen zeggen dat het vernoemd is naar Melissanthi, wiens geest nog steeds rondwaart in de grot. Anderen beweren dat het meer werd ontdekt door een herder, die ervoor koos om de rest van zijn dagen hier door te brengen.” Ook stop je bij de nabijgelegen Drogarati grot om je te vergapen aan de stalactieten en stalagmieten.

Vervolgens breng je een kort bezoek aan de haven van Agia Efimia, waarna je naar Fiskardo gaat. Hier heb je ongeveer twee uur de tijd aan jezelf om in het mondaine vissersdorp rond te struinen en souvenirs in te slaan. Of laat je verleiden door de pastelkleurige tavernes voor een heerlijk maal. Je sluit de dag af bij een uitkijkpunt met uitzicht over het strand van Myrtos. Met het helderblauwe water is het een van de meest fotogenieke plekken in Griekenland.

When sunlight shines in through the opening of this cave, it creates a glistening fluorescent hue on the water below – it's a sight to behold. Georgios says, ‘There are many myths and legends surrounding the history of the lake. Some say it was named after Melissanthi, whose spirit still haunts the cave to this day. Others say it was discovered by a shepherd, who chose to spend the rest of his days here.' You'll also stop by the nearby Drogarati Cave for a chance to see its stalactites and stalagmites.Next up is a short visit to the port of Agia Efimia, before we hit Fiskardo. Here, you'll have around two hours to explore the fashionable fishing village, do a spot of souvenir shopping or grab a bite to eat in one of its many pastel-coloured tavernas. You'll round off the day at a viewpoint overlooking Myrtos beach. Lapped by clear blue waters, it's one of the most photo-worthy spots in Greece.
