Het verhaal
Standing at the foot of Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile is the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The sumptuous palace has been the official residence of the British Monarchy for over 500 years and boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century.
Founded as a monastery in 1128, it’s been expanded and renovated over the centuries. During your visit, you can discover the chambers of Mary, Queen of Scots, as well as the 14 lavish State Apartments decorated with intricate plasterwork, stunning tapestries and paintings by some of the greatest artists of all time. Check out the gallery, adorned with portraits of Scottish monarchs and other notable figures, before exploring the romantic ruins of the 12th-century Holyrood Abbey and the verdant royal gardens. A free multimedia tour is provided, so you find your way around easily.
