1. Embrace the medieval history of Sparrenburg Castle

The most iconic landmark of the city dating back to the 13th century with a 37-meter tall tower and catacombs to explore. If you climb the tower, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of Bielefeld and the surrounding greenery! An absolute must if visiting in July is the Sparrenburg festival which will take you right make to medieval days!

2. Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of the old town

In the heart of the old town lies the picturesque Old Market Square, dramatic Old Town Hall, the Stadttheatre (with opera, ballet, and world-class music) and a variety of churches. Look out for the Church of St Nicholas, Church of St Mary and St. Jodokus. See if you can spot the Linen Weaver statue nearby too. Head to the Neustadt to see the modern part of the city with large squares, parks and fountains.

3. Quench your thirst for nature

Bielefeld is surrounded by green parks and stunning greenery being in the heart of the Teutoburg Forest. Visitors who want a challenge will love the 160-km Hermannsweg (Hermann Trail), one of Germany’s most beautiful high-altitude trails. You’ll go through parts of the forest and will see many sights along the way from castles and monasteries to incredible panoramas!
