At the top, take in the views over the 8km-wide Caldera de Taburiente, the island's only national park. Ringed by cloud-bursting peaks, this immense bowl is thick with pine forests and waterfalls. Your guide will fill you in on the park's history and how your visit will help conserve its ecosystems.Next, it's on to Puntagorda – arguably one of the prettiest villages in the Canaries. Nestled between two ravines, rows of pine and almond trees flank cobbled streets that enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Here, you'll have some time to have a poke around the weekly farmer's market, with stalls dedicated to local produce and handicrafts. At El Time viewpoint, there are heart-pounding views over the Angustias gorge. We'll also make our way to Tajuya viewpoint, from where you can observe the scarred, inferno-like slopes of the Tajogaite volcanic cone, formed from an eruption in autumn 2021.

Then, it's onto the sea-view village of San Andres, a flower-filled cluster of brightly coloured buildings enhanced by all the greenery.Next up, is one of Rudi's favourite parts of the tour. ‘You walk beside tropical banana plantations and find out why they're essential to island life,' he says. Then, after a stroll along the volcanic shoreline of Charco Azul, you'll stop to taste rum at one of the last traditional distilleries in the Canaries.'

La Palma Stargazing

If the thought of stargazing at one of La Palma's many night sky viewpoints has you starry eyed, then this evening activity is just for you. You'll drive yourselves to the meeting point to meet your guide. Once darkness has fallen, you'll go stargazing.The skies above La Palma come alive at night, and with some of the clearest skies in Europe, you're in the right place to go stargazing. With the right weather conditions, the Milky Way is dazzling against crystal-clear dark skies. Due to a very restrictive lighting policy across the island, outdoor lights on La Palma are well shielded and the night-time sky is dark. For the real show you have to leave the coastline and drive up to the mountains to one of the many astronomical view points in La Palma.You'll drive to the designated point, which is one of the best places for stargazing. After making the most of 90 minutes of astronomical observation, you'll have time to take some night photos.

You'll stop by the village of Mazo for a look around its colourful houses, stand before the crater of San Antonio volcano and learn about the island's volcanic activity, and round off at the salt pans and lighthouse of Fuencaliente.

You'll go into the Bonita Cave and see landmarks such as the Veta beach – and may even spot dolphins.The fun kicks off when the Fancy II sails from Tazacorte harbour. You'll sail northwards past volcanic cliffs with drops of more than 200 metres. We'll stop at the Bonita Cave – a large grotto with two mouths. Centuries ago, locals would hide here from pirates. The catamaran will sail right into the cave.Next up is Poris de Candelaria, where a few fishermen's huts have been built at the foot of cliffs. Snacks will then be served. We'll keep on sailing, passing the Colorada Cave and Poris de Puntagorda, in search of dolphins and whales.
