Tranquil surroundings and a picturesque backdrop are all the ingredients you need to laze the day away gently gliding along on one of Portugal's loveliest rivers.
Flowing along the Portuguese-Spanish border, the Guadiana's banks are wonderfully peaceful and unspoiled. Think sleepy whitewashed villages and a patchwork of rustling reed beds, pastures and olive groves. After joining your cruise boat at the coastal town of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, you'll float gently upriver, taking in the scenery as you go. Watch the passing red-roofed villages, keep a look out for herons and spoonbills or just close your eyes and soak up the sunshine.
After a while, you'll dock at a traditional village where'll you have a bit of time to explore before heading to a restaurant overlooking the river. Sit down to lunch and afterwards, relax in the warmth of the sun or enjoy a swim in the restaurant's pool. Then walk back to your boat for your relaxing return cruise to Vila Real.
